In the last article, we talked about the superhero film of Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film today happens in last ice age. A boy, accompanying with a wolf-Alpha, sets foot on the road of returning home. During the traveling, the friendship between human beings and wolves is established.
Alpha is a historical drama adventure movie directed by Albert Hughes and written by Daniele Sebastian Wiedenhaupt. Kodi Smit-McPhee plays a young hunter who befriends an injured wolf during the last ice age. Principal photography began in February 2016 in Canada and lasted through that April. The film was delayed several times, before being released in the United States on August 17, 2018.
The story takes place in northern Europe 20,000 years ago. A small tribe of hunter-gatherers prepares for an expedition to hunt for the coming winter's food. Tau, its chief, trains his adolescent son Keda (Kodi Smit-McPhee), accepting him and another boy to join the hunting party. His wife Rho worries that Keda is not ready, but Tau believes he is and the hunters set out.
One night, the party’s fire draws the attention of a smilodon, which snatches Keda’s friend. Hearing the fatal struggle in the darkness, the tribe gives him up for dead. The member is given a memorial service in the form of placing rocks to symbolize the passing of one's spirit to the afterlife.
Then, they meet a group of bison; Keda falls off the cliff during the fight. Tau attempts to catch him but failed. Other members of the tribe persuade that Keda is dead. Hence, Tau places a symbolizing rock stricken with grief.
Keda’s leg is broken when falling down from the cliff. He tries to climb down the cliff but the heavy rainstorm rushes him to the water. He survives and realizes that he must trek back to the village by himself.
Keda is attacked by a pack of dire wolves. He escapes up a tree and wounds one of them which being left by others. Keda takes pity on it, cares for its injury and name it as Alpha. Their companionship grows in the traveling. Alpha and Keda meet the wolves once, they hesitate upon seeing Alpha, who steps forward and greets them. Finally, Alpha joins the wolves with Keda’s blessing.
Keda continues his journey alone as the season changes to winter. He encounters Alpha and runs to it. But the ice breaks and he falls through. Alpha helps rescue him and they are reunited.
The journey continues, Keda eventually finds the village and reunites happily with his parents, who are amazed and proud of him. Alpha delivers a litter of pups to Keda's surprise. Alpha and her pups are formally welcomed into the tribe and grow up in the care of Alpha and Keda.
In time, the tribe becomes one of both humans and domesticated wolves, hunting together.
