Basic information of The Shining
The Shining is a 1980 horrible film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick and co-written with novelist Diane Johnson. The film is based on Stephen King's 1977 novel The Shining.
To get rid of frustration on works, Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, accepts a position as the caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He disregards the friend’s exhortation and moves to the hotel with his wife Wendy Torrance (Shelley Duvall) and young son Danny Torrance (Danny Lloyd). Before their arrival, one disaster has occurred in this hotel that the former caretaker killed his families including two daughters and himself. Dany obsesses “The Shining”, physic abilities that include seeing the hotel’s horrific past. The cook Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers) also obsesses this ability and could telepathically communicate with Dany. Dick protects Dany by “The Shining” and tells him to keep away from the Rom 237.
Not long after their occupancy, the blizzard blocked them at the hotel. Jack’s reason deteriorates by the supernatural forces inhibited in the hotel. He becomes restless and is unable to write quietly. The relationship with his wife and son becomes alienated. One day, Wendy finds out Jack repeated a sentence from the beginning to the end: “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”. Therefore, she reinforces her determination to take Dany to leave the hotel, but the action is impeded by Jack. He is going to kill Wendy and Dany under the temptation of the supernatural forces. At last, he freezes to death in the labyrinth outside the hotel when he is hunting Dany.
My points on The Shining
I was watching this movie accompanied by my classmates. Apart from the bloody picture, the depressing background music in the film plays a key role in setting off the atmosphere. Alright, the music is enough to afflict my will.
I think that no supernatural force exists in the hotel. The main reason why Jack becomes crazy is that there are no other people he can communicate. His wife and son are deeply afraid that he will do something make them in danger. So they are reluctant to talk to him. What’s more, he is unable to communicate with outside world in the time when network is not developed. Insomuch his emotions break out as he couldn’t stand the state of being ignored by his wife and son.

Steps to convert movie to disc
